Knowledge & Acuity

last updated 2/23/2025 – includes changes for Undermine(d) patch 11.1

Artisan’s Acuity

Artisan’s Acuity is the TWW profession currency. It can be used to:

  • buy knowledge books (200-400)
  • craft profession tools (300)
  • buy recipes (150)
  • craft the new special profession bags (150)
  • recraft gear (20)

Knowledge Catch-up

There’s a certain amount of knowledge that you can get per week (the cap varies by profession), but if you fall behind, the are catch-up mechanisms:

  • Gathering: more knowledge point items will drop while you gather until you hit your cap. They will be single point items.
  • Crafting: more patron orders will become available that reward knowledge points. These do not show up all at once, and will only reward 1 point each (vs. the 2 point usual order), so it’s more efficient stay caught up, esp. in professions that have expensive materials like blacksmithing.

Knowledge Point & Artisan’s Acuity Sources

Whenever you gain knowledge, you also gain 5 acuity per knowledge point. Known exceptions: the one-time treasures, and Kej vendor books.

One Time Sources

First Crafts & Gathers

The first time you craft any recipe you will get 1 knowledge. The first time you find a new type of herb or ore, you will get 1 knowledge. There is no equivalent for Skinning.

Intro Quest

There’s a one time quest in Dornogal that will get you 350 Artisan’s Acuity as well as a bag of crafting reagents. Talk to Roldira ( /way #2339 59.2 55.8 Roldira ) to pick it up. She’s located in the building behind the craft order stations. This quest will also have you find your crafting station and unlocks patron orders.

Treasures

24 knowledge points can be gained per profession from 8 treasures scattered across the TWW zones. You can find and use the treasures at any skill level, but you won’t be able to use the knowlege points until you hit skill 25 and can unlock a specialization. Using them does not give you Acuity.

Artisan Consortium Books

Lyrendal, the Artisan Consortium vendor in Dornagal ( /way #2339 59.6 56.2 Lyrendal ) sells 3 books per profession. They give 10 Knowledge Points each for crafting professions or 15 for gathering ones, and cost 200 / 300 / 400 Artisan’s Acuity. He’s located in the building behind the craft order stations are. You’ll need to have 25 skill in your profession to buy them.

Faction Renown Books

Upon gaining the rquired renown with the factions below, all of your toons will be able to purchase books for the listed price from the faction’s quarermaster. If the currency used to buy the book was Artsian’s Acuity, you will get 5 Acuity back per knowledge gained when using the book.

Recurring Sources

You can use TWW Weekly Profession Knowledge WA to help you keep track of your recurring knowledge points.

All Professions

Dorogal Weekly Quests

  • For gatherers (and enchanters), the questgiver is your profession trainer in Dornogal, and you’ll need to turn in some reagents you can gather or obtain by disenchanting. You’re rewarded 3 knowledge and 15 acuity. You need 25 skill in your gathering profession to be eligible for the quest.
  • For crafters, the questgiver is Kala Clayhoof ( /way #2339 59.2 55.6 Kala Clayhoof ) inside the Artist’s Consortium building in Dornogal. She’ll ask you to fulfill 2-3 crafting orders (LW, BS & Tailor have 3, others 2). There is no minimum skill required to get the quest. Engineers are rewarded 1 knowledge and 5 acuity, other professions get 2 knowledge and 10 acuity. Filling patron orders counts toward this quest. Enchanters don’t get a quest – they act like a gathering profession (see weekly gathering drops below).

Treatises

Algari profession treatises (made by scribes) give you 1 knowledge point, and 5 acuity when you use one. They can be used once per week per profession, and require having 25 skill in that profession. They can be ordered through the crafting system, and don’t have a quality associated with them, so public orders using low quality mats work just fine.

Darkmoon Faire

Monthly Darkmoon Faire quests offer 2 skill points and 3 knowledge points (no acuity).

Crafting Professions Only

Patron Orders

This will be your biggest knowledge point source per week. Patron orders that offer 2 point knowldege rewards (Glimmers of Knowledge) are offered every 4 days. You’ll get 2-3* of these quests, which expire after 7 days. If you are behind on patron orders, you will also be offered quests that offer 1 point knowlege rewards (Flickers of Knowledge). These show up somewhat randomly, and have a shorter duration. See Patron Orders for more details.

*: Alchemists, engineers, and jewelcrafters get 2 glimmer quests; blacksmiths, scribes, leatherworkers, and tailors get 3. Enchanters don’t get patron orders that reward knowledge (but they do get weekly treasures).

Weekly Treasures

When you open a chest or dig in disturbed dirt, there’s a chance to find a profession treasure. You can get 2 a week, and they are worth 1-2 knowledge each depending on the profession.

Gathering Professions & Enchanting

When gathering or disenchanting, you have a chance to find an item that gives 1 knowledge and 5 acuity. When you’ve reached your weekly allotment (5), you’ll find another item that is worth more (2-4 depending on your profession). If you are not “caught up” on gathering knowledge, you will continue to find more 1 KP drops, with a different name. It’s been reported that these catch up items won’t drop unless you’ve done all of the other quests to get KP for the profession that week (this includes the Darkmoon Faire, if it’s up).
