Overview
Why fish? A lot of TWW cooking recipes require fish (including 2 feasts), and fishing gives you access to a cool mount, recipes, and cosmetics. It’s also a nice way to de-stress between raids/dungeons.
Minimap Tracking: “Find Fish” is not automatically a tracking option. If it’s not showing up for your toon, buy an “Angler’s Guide” from a fishing trainer, which will teach you the skill.
Skill: Unlike other profession skills, fishing goes up to 300. You can sucessfully fish from pools at any skill level, but zones have different fishing difficulties for open water. You’ll get more trash than fish unless you’ve got the recommended skill for the zone you’re in:
- 1: Isle of Dorn
- 125: Ringing Deeps
- 225: Hallowfall
- 375: Azj-Kahet
Wait… you said fishing went up to 300- why is Azj-Kahet 375?? If you attach an Algari Weaverline to your fishing rod, you can get up to 400 (see below).
Algari Weaverline, Seekerthread & Anglerthread
Algari Weaverline – this is the “enchant” you want to use on your fishing pole. It’s made by tailors, and requires 100 Artisan’s Acuity. Once you apply it to your pole, you can use special threads which give you permanent stacking fishing buffs that are shareable with your other warband characters. The best way to get these threads is participating in the weekly fishing derby (see the Fishing Derby section below), and fishing from treasure pools when you find them.
- Algari Seekerthread: adds 1 perception for fishing, up to 100
- Algari Anglerthread: adds 1 fishing skill, up to 100
Weaverline Tips:
- Only apply weaverline to rare quality fishing rods (Aquirite Fisherfriend) – you can’t transfer it if you upgrade your fishing pole.
- Only warband characters that also have a weaverline attached to their fishing pole will benefit from the warband bonus
- Designate a single toon to collect & use all of your angler/seeker threads – progress will be shared with other toons at 10 point intervals, when you get achievements
TWW Fish
Cooking Uses: All fish can be converted into “Fresh Fillet” (requires a stack of 5 of the same fish), which is an ingredient for many TWW recipies. Higher quality fish tend to yield more fillets. Some fish can only be used to make fillets, others are used in personal stat food, and a few are used for feasts. Check the “Required for Recipe” column below before filleting your fish – the ones used for feasts (yellow background) are worth more unprocessed, esp. the slum sharks.
*: Lures: Skinners can make lures for some types of fish (marked below with *), which can be bought on the AH. Despite claiming a 30min duration, the lure buff disappears after you catch a fish of that type.

Treasure Pools can drop various transmogs, Algari Seekerthread, Algari Anglerthread, Soaked Journal Entries, derby marks, and null stones/null stone fragments. You can also fish these things up at a very low drop rate from other pools and open water.
The Fishing Derby
The Quest: Every Saturday, you can participate in the Mereldar fishing derby. It’s a 1 hour timed event that begins when you pick up the quest from Captain Oathmist, who hangs out south of Mereldar, Hallowfall (/way #2215 44.2 61.6 Captain Oathmyt)
. The quest will require you to catch 3 specific TWW fish before the timer runs out, and rewards you with 10 derby marks, and your choice of 2 Algari Seekerthread, 2 Algari Anglerthread, or 2 Soaked Journal Entries. You can do this quest on more than one toon, but sometimes it’s buggy – make sure you also get the derby buff, or you won’t be able to make progress on the quest objective.
Derby Currency & Rewards: The “Meraldar Derby Mark” can be used to buy transmogs, cooking recipes (including Ghoulfish Delight, which boosts fishing skill and perception), Algari Anglerthread & Seekerthread from Captain Oathmist. She’s only there on Saturday. In addition to completing the weekly derby quest, you can earn marks by catching unique fish while you have the derby buff, even if you’ve turned in the quest. Each new fish type per week will get you 1 mark. So you could get 30 marks per week per toon. The currency is warband transferrable.
Derby Mount / Achievement: Kah, Legend of the Deep (a creepy flying fish) is the reward for the “The Derby Dash” achievement, which requires you to catch one of every type of fish in TWW while having the derby buff. You don’t have to do all of it during a single derby – progress persists from week to week. All but one fish can be fished from pools, so don’t have a required fishing skill level. The exception – the Awoken Coelacanth – involves fishing in open water in Ajz-Kahet. You may need to max out your skill before you can catch that one.
Recommended Addon: Fishing Derby Tracker – provides a list of all TWW fish, and which zones/pools to find them in. When you catch a fish, it’s removed from the list. By default the list only shows when you have the quest, but you can change it to show when you have the buff or always.
